Ask AJ anything about The Hoax.
Except if the sequel's ready. It's not. ;D

I've actually googled the name Zirub. I'm curious about whether you pulled his story out of different sources and research you'd done or if you completely made it up. The way you let the story unfold in the book, with Father Bello and all his carefully kept pages, it rang so true that I had to see if there were any myths out there. And how did you come up with all the brothers' names?

The story of Zirub is completely made up, though a lot of people have asked if it has basis in mythology. As for the name(s), I did to a lot of searching to make sure Zirub and the others were NOT used in anything else, at least not in a widespread way. As the writers well know, when trying to create a unique name, it's a balancing act. You have to try and come up with something unusual, while not making it sound like an 800 year old vampire in a gothic fantasy novel.

I'm so glad you kept the names simple. Some people like those multisyllabic names in their stories, but that drive me crazy and makes it hard to read.
I have a question: Do you think The Hoax would make a better Theatrical Movie or Cable Series?
(Personally, I'd love to see it on Scifi Network. then you could really explore the characters.)

I also wound up Googling many things while reading the book, wondering how much was based on legend/history/religion and how much came out of Adrienne's head. There's a whole mythos there that's worthy of a "Hoax wikipedia"...which I may see if I can put together.

How bout both?!!
I can see it as an ongoing series in print, at the very least. I struggle with most things I write, but The Hoax characters are just easier for some reason. They do all the work, and I can see this story going on indefinitely. Unless Shep blows up the world or something.

Yeah, all your characters definitely go well beyond the pages for me. I think they would adapt well to a series.
Of course, the movie biz loves sequels these days too, so either/or...

Well next time you meet with one of those big movie directors, you send them my way. ;D Peter Jackson will do. Maybe Guy Ritchie.

Heh, I've been looking online at actors--ever since that Shep-spotting--because I do want to know who will play him one day. As for TV or Movies, I want to see it in a theater, but I want it to be four hours minimum; I don't want anything left out. And I want the theater to myself. And I want Adrienne in complete control of how everything is done. The TV series makes sense because it could handle all the book's details and leave nothing out, but I don't know, I've never been as mesmerized by the cable versions (maybe because it's split over nights? or is less time spent, less talent, less access to funds? I've no idea, but ... oh never, mind, I'm just asking for perfection.)

I can't see any actors that look like the characters in my head. They're all pretty unique. Except maybe Patrick. I've always seen him a bit like Michael Rappaport, or Dash Mihok. Sort of a combo.

I looked up 'Powers' online and see that they actually are based in mythology. (ya I'm a nerd). I wonder why the author chose this sect above others, when there are so many to choose from.

Oh, I looked it up too (nerds unite). And yes, I've wondered why she chose Powers--was it because they guarded between the worlds, had potential access to both? Because they weren't quite high enough to be THAT deadly? Perhaps she'll explain?

Because I thought they were cool. : )
Seriously though, in researching, I stumbled upon them, and they were listed as the rank that had fallen from grace more than any other, because of their close proximity to the nether regions. Temptation to travel to other realms would be very high for them, because guarding the byways and mapquesting trips for everyone else would make them curious. They just seemed like the most likely candidate for what I wanted to do; the border patrol.
