I'm curious to know what other people would list for, say, their two favorite scenes in The Hoax. I'd have to say my favorite two (placing these horrible restrictions on myself because the list would be too long) are when Patrick first meets with Shep in the Forest Bluffs kitchen after they'd been apart and Patrick has learned everything (god, the emotion there and the humorous relief), and when Shep turns the gun on Margol (whom we know he loves so much) when Margol's about to shoot Patrick. This leads me to believe that one of the greatest pulls in the book, for me, is this relationship between Shep and Patrick (remember all those grand friendships in literature, all those betrayals, all those difficult loyalties? Adrienne has it all here).

I completely agree with both scenes, but will offer up two more otherwise my addition will be moot and obsolete and flatulent.
1. Klee coming out of the cripulet - contained so much tension I was literally scared witless - especially when Shep smells the candy necklace. She (Adrienne) put Patrick and Robin FAR too close to the nuts, so my belly was jumping all the way through. The silly bastards should have picked a ledge way higher. Just saying.
2. When Shep goes to the house on the hill after J gets shot, and has the face-off with Agent Walsh. The scene is set up so perfectly you're there in the room, not to mention that Walsh is one of the best characters in the book.
Can my alter ego, Joe Spaghetti, name a couple too? Thanks!
1. Margol catching Obrien in the middle of the night and telling him, "I'm onto you."
2. Kelinda kidnapping Joey to share his blood with the followers. Beautiful, beautiful scene, both visually, emotionally and plotterarily.

(Margol catching Obrien in the middle of the night and telling him, "I'm onto you.")
Thank you for that. Developing Margol's character as the shy-yet-potentially-dangerous one is something I was very subtle about. Not many people ever mentioned Margol to me, so I thought this had gone unnoticed. But seeing some of the comments on here, I see that some people did pick up the potential creepiness of Margol.
