I love Kelinda, the way she turned so completely into a different person. Do you see her as a victim? And I'm wondering what will happen to her now that the bond has been broken. She still ingested the goods, is it going to affect her aging etc?

Yeah, I've wondered what will happen to her now too. I guess I do see her as a victim to an extent, though everyone seems to have their weaknesses. I find I tend to latch on to Robin's claims that Kelinda was always practical. We didn't get to see much of her before all this happened. She participated in the hoax willingly, out of passion for Joey. That shows she wasn't completely a victim. But it was interesting to see what she did with it, sharing it, then prompting Joey's sacrifice to fulfill the legend (and Shep's failure) again.
I don't know. We'll see! Question though--did you like her? I didn't get attached to her as I did other minor characters. I'd have walked on the opposite side of the room from Kelinda.

I do like her, but I have a problem with being drawn to crazy women.

I like Kelinda a lot by the end of the book; at the beginning she was 'Disney', but obviously not Disney enough to say No to bad influences. By the end she's cool, assertive, twisted, damaged, experienced, much more attractive IMO At the start I kinda see her as a 'willing' victim, waiting for a screwed up situation to break her sheltered life open. If she was truly a victim she would never have agreed to the hoax, and she's a pretty complex character in my eyes. She even hit on the puking guy at a funeral.

Interesting. I love seeing everyone's somewhat different reactions. I keep seeing her as a vampire, sucking the life out of anyone in the room. That makes her powerful, but then I also remember how she softened a little with Patrick, let down the hard guard a bit for a second, and I warmed to that. I also liked how she stepped up when Joey was shot, walked right past Shep and spoke to the crowd. That was a perfect display of her power and Shep's vulnerability (and he was smart enough to see the value in it there, though maybe should have taken note of the potential for mishap with her ... but, hey, he has a lot on his mind). Anyway, for me, I can't take hardass for too long.
So ... will she be in the sequel at all? Hmmm....

EDIT: On the other hand, Robin is supposed to be the hardass (isn't that what Patrick says at the start?) and I love everything about her. Maybe it's the "twisted" aspect that chills me with Kelinda.

This is one of those topics I have to stay out of. Pat warned me when I wanted to start this forum that I had to be careful of being influenced, and or influencing anything else in terms of the sequel. Must keep....opinion...to SELF!

One thing I loved about Kelinda, was Adrienne's cartoony treatment of her. One point in particular made me laugh out loud. Shep had described her as looking like a cartoon and Adrienne's depiction of her round eyes and seemed to push towards amine . . . then Adrienne goes the whole nine yards and gives her spiked pink hair.
ps. That's something Adrienne's good at; her writing can be funny and serious at the same time.
